Face Off Friday

Happy Friday! Hope everyone is well 🙂

So Face Off Friday is going to be a cover vs cover weekly feature where you pit the same titles with different covers against one another and decide which one is best. These can be US vs UK etc.

Fatal Throne by Candace Fleming

(U.K. on the left and US on the right)

I absolutely loveeee the US cover. It’s beautiful, lush, and has underlying danger with the red tipped font of the title. I just love it. The U.K. is very meh, I don’t like it at all. It looks kinda cheap (I feel bad!), I don’t like the font either… but I guess I like the blood tear.

US wins this round for me.

I absolutely adore the US cover, I wish they sold it in the U.K. as I would 100% buy this. I haven’t read this yet, but it’s on my radar and I would like to eventually get to this series as it sounds great. The U.K. cover just seems bland, like other YA book covers I’ve seen whereas I can appreciate the illustration of the US cover, the piercing gaze, the mystery, the intrigue. It just grabs me straight away.

US wins this round for me.

Ariadne by Jennifer Saint

(U.K. on the left and US on the right)

I loveeee the gold leaf foil effect of the U.K. edition, the Greek border, the font… I love everything about it. The US edition is nice, I like the brightness it would definitely stand out in the bookstore. I’m not a massive fan of the cartoon… I’m going to go with the U.K. edition.

U.K. wins this round for me.

She Who Became The Sun by Shelley Parker-Chan

(U.K. on the left and US on the right)

I really like how vibrant the U.K. cover is, the orange and yellow work really well together. The dragon really captures your eyes and I would pick it up. The US cover reminds me of The Poppy War with the army standing in the background. I think the US cover tells me more about the story just from looking at the cover and it looks more like an adult novel, whereas the U.K. one looks more YA.

The US wins this round for me.

So with four votes to the US to one vote for the U.K., US wins this week!

What do you think? Do you agree with my choices? Which covers do you prefer? Let me know in the comments 🙂
